A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to a residential infant care program for mothers confined
  in Texas Department of Criminal Justice facilities.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 501, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 501.022 to read as follows:
         Sec. 501.022.  INFANT CARE AND PARENTING. The department
  shall implement a residential infant care and parenting program for
  mothers who are confined by the department. To the extent
  practicable, the department shall model the program after the
  Federal Bureau of Prisons' Mothers and Infants Together program
  operated under contract in Fort Worth.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
