A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

AN ACT
|
|
relating to a study of the expenses of health care for certain |
|
elderly inmates. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. INMATE HEALTH CARE STUDY. (a) The Texas |
|
Department of Criminal Justice shall conduct a study to determine |
|
the number of inmates 55 years of age or older who: |
|
(1) receive health care services from the department; |
|
and |
|
(2) have never been convicted of or received a grant of |
|
deferred adjudication for an offense described by Section 3g, |
|
Article 42.12, Code of Criminal Procedure. |
|
(b) After determining the number of inmates described by |
|
Subsection (a), the department shall determine the amount of |
|
savings that would result to the state in health care services costs |
|
if the department were to release the inmates into the community on |
|
parole. |
|
(c) Not later than December 1, 2008, the department shall |
|
submit a report to the legislature regarding the results of the |
|
study conducted under this section. |
|
SECTION 2. EXPIRATION. This Act expires January 1, 2009. |
|
SECTION 3. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect September |
|
1, 2007. |
