A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the eligibility of certain educationally disadvantaged |
|
|
students to attend free prekindergarten classes. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 29.153, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (g) to read as follows: |
|
|
(g) A child who is eligible for enrollment in a |
|
|
prekindergarten class under Subsection (b)(2) because of the |
|
|
child's placement in foster care or other residential care under |
|
|
the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective |
|
|
Services remains eligible for enrollment if the child is adopted |
|
|
after enrolling in the class. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies beginning with the 2007-2008 |
|
|
school year. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
