A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the designation of a portion of United States Highway
  287 as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Freeway.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter B, Chapter 225, Transportation Code,
  is amended by adding Section 225.066 to read as follows:
         Sec. 225.066.  DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., FREEWAY. (a)
  The part of United States Highway 287 south of State Highway 180 to
  its intersection with Interstate Highway 820 in Tarrant County is
  designated as the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Freeway.
         (b)  The department shall design and construct memorial
  markers indicating the highway number, the designation as the Dr.
  Martin Luther King, Jr., Freeway, and any other appropriate
  information.
         (c)  The department shall erect a marker at each end of the
  highway and at appropriate intermediate sites along the highway.
         (d)  The department is not required to design, construct, or
  erect a marker under this section unless the department receives a
  grant or donation to cover the cost of the design, construction, and
  erection.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
