A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the creation of a hotline to report suspected incidents |
|
|
of impaired driving or dangerous driving. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 411, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 411.052 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 411.052. IMPAIRED OR DANGEROUS DRIVING HOTLINE. (a) |
|
|
The department shall develop and operate a 24-hour-a-day hotline |
|
|
for persons to report incidents of suspected driving while |
|
|
intoxicated or under the influence of alcohol or drugs and |
|
|
dangerous driving to the department. |
|
|
(b) The hotline must enable a person to report an incident |
|
|
of suspected driving while intoxicated or under the influence of |
|
|
alcohol or drugs or dangerous driving to the department by: |
|
|
(1) calling a toll-free telephone number; |
|
|
(2) using an Internet website; or |
|
|
(3) using other means of electronic communication, |
|
|
including: |
|
|
(A) e-mail message transmission; or |
|
|
(B) text messaging. |
|
|
(c) The department, as soon as practicable, shall forward a |
|
|
report received on the hotline to the municipal police department |
|
|
or sheriff's office with jurisdiction over the matter. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
