A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to an annual report by a justice of the peace regarding
certain income.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 154.005(a), Local Government Code, is
amended to read as follows:
       (a)  A justice of the peace may receive, in addition to a
salary, all fees, commissions, or payments for performing marriage
ceremonies, for acting as registrar for the Bureau of Vital
Statistics, and for acting as ex officio notary public. A justice
of the peace who receives fees, commissions, or payments during a
calendar year for performing one or more marriage ceremonies shall
submit a report not later than May 1 of the following year to the
commissioners court of the county in which the justice of the peace
serves that specifies the total amount of fees, commissions, and
payments that the justice of the peace:
             (1)  received for performing marriage ceremonies
during the previous calendar year; and
             (2)  reported on a tax return for the previous calendar
year that was filed with the Internal Revenue Service.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
