A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to an annual report by a justice of the peace regarding |
|
|
certain income. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 154.005(a), Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(a) A justice of the peace may receive, in addition to a |
|
|
salary, all fees, commissions, or payments for performing marriage |
|
|
ceremonies, for acting as registrar for the Bureau of Vital |
|
|
Statistics, and for acting as ex officio notary public. A justice |
|
|
of the peace who receives fees, commissions, or payments during a |
|
|
calendar year for performing one or more marriage ceremonies shall |
|
|
submit a report not later than May 1 of the following year to the |
|
|
commissioners court of the county in which the justice of the peace |
|
|
serves that specifies the total amount of fees, commissions, and |
|
|
payments that the justice of the peace: |
|
|
(1) received for performing marriage ceremonies |
|
|
during the previous calendar year; and |
|
|
(2) reported on a tax return for the previous calendar |
|
|
year that was filed with the Internal Revenue Service. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
