A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to available training for school resource officers and
school district peace officers.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  The heading to Subchapter M, Chapter 1701,
Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER M. VISITING RESOURCE OFFICERS [OFFICER] IN PUBLIC
SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT PEACE OFFICERS
       SECTION 2.  Subchapter M, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is
amended by adding Section 1701.604 to read as follows:
       Sec. 1701.604.  ADDITIONAL TRAINING.  (a)  The commission by
rule shall require a law enforcement agency of a political
subdivision that employs a school resource officer or a school
district that employs a school district peace officer under Section
37.081, Education Code, to make available to the officer a training
program that meets the requirements of this section.
       (b)  The training program must include a curriculum that
incorporates learning objectives developed by the commission
regarding discipline management practices or behavior management
practices that are consistent with Section 37.0021, Education Code,
and the procedures adopted under that section.
       SECTION 3.  The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer
Standards and Education shall develop the curriculum for the
training program required to be made available under Section
1701.604, Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than
January 1, 2008.
       SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
