A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to available training for school resource officers and |
|
|
school district peace officers. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. The heading to Subchapter M, Chapter 1701, |
|
|
Occupations Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|
|
SUBCHAPTER M. VISITING RESOURCE OFFICERS [OFFICER] IN PUBLIC |
|
|
SCHOOLS AND SCHOOL DISTRICT PEACE OFFICERS |
|
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter M, Chapter 1701, Occupations Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 1701.604 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 1701.604. ADDITIONAL TRAINING. (a) The commission by |
|
|
rule shall require a law enforcement agency of a political |
|
|
subdivision that employs a school resource officer or a school |
|
|
district that employs a school district peace officer under Section |
|
|
37.081, Education Code, to make available to the officer a training |
|
|
program that meets the requirements of this section. |
|
|
(b) The training program must include a curriculum that |
|
|
incorporates learning objectives developed by the commission |
|
|
regarding discipline management practices or behavior management |
|
|
practices that are consistent with Section 37.0021, Education Code, |
|
|
and the procedures adopted under that section. |
|
|
SECTION 3. The Commission on Law Enforcement Officer |
|
|
Standards and Education shall develop the curriculum for the |
|
|
training program required to be made available under Section |
|
|
1701.604, Occupations Code, as added by this Act, not later than |
|
|
January 1, 2008. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
