A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the appointment of a temporary county chair.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 171.027(b), Election Code, is amended to
  read as follows:
         (b)  The state executive committee or the state chair shall
  appoint a temporary county chair. If the state chair appoints a
  temporary county chair, the state executive committee at the next
  regular meeting of the committee shall ratify the appointment of
  the temporary county chair or appoint another person as temporary
  county chair.  A [To be appointed, a person must receive a]
  favorable vote of a majority of the members of the committee voting
  is required for ratification or an appointment [committee's
  membership].
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
