A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the display of vehicle license plates. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 502.404, Transportation Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (c-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(c-1) A person commits an offense if the person fails to |
|
|
display each plate required under Subsection (a) or (c) so that the |
|
|
letters and numbers assigned by the department display right side |
|
|
up and can be read from left to right. This subsection does not |
|
|
apply to a trailer or farm vehicle for which the display requirement |
|
|
of this subsection would impede the safe operation of the trailer or |
|
|
vehicle as determined by department rule. |
|
|
SECTION 2. (a) The change in law made by this Act applies |
|
|
only to an offense committed on or after the effective date of this |
|
|
Act. For purposes of this section, an offense is committed before |
|
|
the effective date of this Act if any element of the offense occurs |
|
|
before that date. |
|
|
(b) An offense committed before the effective date of this |
|
|
Act is covered by the law in effect when the offense was committed, |
|
|
and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
