A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to designating April as Child Safety Month.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Subchapter D, Chapter 662, Government Code, is
  amended by adding Section 662.103 to read as follows:
         Sec. 662.103.  CHILD SAFETY MONTH. (a)  April is Child
  Safety Month in recognition of the children of this state as this
  state's most precious resource. By establishing April as Child
  Safety Month, this state seeks to ensure that the children of this
  state grow up in a safe and supportive environment by promoting
  their protection and care through increased public awareness of:
               (1)  ways to reduce accidental injury and death through
  the use of bicycle helmets, seat belts, safety and booster seats,
  and smoke alarms; and
               (2)  the dangers presented to children by unattended
  and unlocked vehicles and by being left in closed vehicles during
  hot or sunny weather.
         (b)  Child Safety Month may be regularly observed by
  appropriate celebrations and activities in public schools and other
  places to promote the protection and care of children in this state.
         SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
