A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to creation of a minimum data set for the collection of
information on health professionals by the statewide health
coordinating council.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 105.003, Health and Safety Code, is
amended by amending Subsection (c) and adding Subsection (f) to
read as follows:
       (c)  At a minimum, the data collected by the council must
include the following in regard to each health professional
licensed by the State Board of Dental Examiners, the Texas Medical
Board, the Board of Nurse Examiners, the Texas Optometry Board, the
Texas State Board of Podiatric Medical Examiners, the Texas State
Board of Pharmacy, or the Texas State Board of Examiners of
Psychologists [professionals]:
             (1)  full name and last four digits of social security
number;
             (2)  certification, registration, or licensure
information, including certification, registration, or license
number, issuance date, method of certification, registration, or
licensure, and certification, registration, or licensure status;
             (3)  biographical information, including sex, race or
ethnicity, date and place of birth, and full primary mailing
address;
             (4)  educational background and training, including
high school location, highest professional degree obtained,
professional school name and location, and graduation year; and
             (5)  practice information, including primary specialty
practice, any additional practice with percentage of professional
time dedicated to primary specialty and percentage of professional
time dedicated to additional practice, location of each practice,
full mailing address of each practice, county federal information
processing standards code, number of hours per week spent at each
practice location, and description of practice settings
             [(1)their number and geographic distribution;
             [(2)licensure or certification status;
             [(3)specialty areas, if applicable; and
             [(4)  trends or changes in license holders according to
number or geographic distribution].
       (f)  A state board described by Subsection (c) shall collect
on behalf of the council the information required by the minimum
data set established under Subsection (c).  The council and a state
board that collects data on behalf of the council may enter into an
interagency contract regarding the data collection.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
