A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the responsibility of The University of Texas Medical |
|
|
Branch at Galveston to provide health care services to certain |
|
|
residents. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. The heading to Section 74.005, Education Code, |
|
|
is amended to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 74.005. TREATMENT OF CERTAIN PATIENTS; MEDICAL BRANCH |
|
|
AS HOSPITAL OF LAST RESORT. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 74.005, Education Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (d-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(d-1) Subject to this section and Chapter 61, Health and |
|
|
Safety Code, the medical branch that treats an eligible resident of |
|
|
a county, public hospital, or hospital district is entitled to |
|
|
reimbursement of the medical branch's actual costs of providing |
|
|
health care services to the eligible resident from the appropriate |
|
|
county, public hospital, or hospital district. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
