A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the duty of the judge of the 147th District Court to |
|
|
impanel grand juries and to the terms of court for certain district |
|
|
courts in Travis County. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 24.155(d), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) The judges of the district courts [other than the 147th
|
|
|
District Court] in Travis County do not have a duty to impanel grand |
|
|
juries but may impanel grand juries when they consider it |
|
|
necessary. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Section 24.248(b), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The terms of the 147th District Court begin on the first |
|
|
Mondays in January and[, April,] July[, and October]. |
|
|
SECTION 3. Section 24.264(b), Government Code, is amended |
|
|
to read as follows: |
|
|
(b) The terms of the 167th District Court begin on the first |
|
|
Mondays in January [March] and July [September]. |
|
|
SECTION 4. Section 24.248(c), Government Code, is repealed. |
|
|
SECTION 5. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
