A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a requirement that an applicant for an original |
driver's license complete a course on the laws relating to driving |
while intoxicated. |
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
SECTION 1. Subchapter G, Chapter 521, Transportation Code, |

INTOXICATED REQUIRED. (a) The department may not issue an original |
driver's license to an applicant unless the applicant has completed |
and passed a course on the laws relating to driving while |
intoxicated, including the consequences of committing the offense |
of driving while intoxicated. |
(b) The department by rule shall prescribe: |
(1) the curriculum for the course; |
(2) the qualifications required for course providers; |
(3) the form of proof required to establish successful |
completion of the course; and |
(4) other requirements the department considers |
necessary. |
(c) Rules adopted under Subsection (b) may provide that an |
applicant may satisfy the requirements of this section by |
submitting a certificate issued under Chapter 1001, Education Code, |
