A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to motor vehicle inspection fee refunds for vehicles used |
|
|
by volunteer fire departments. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter H, Chapter 548, Transportation Code, |
|
|
is amended by adding Section 548.509 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 548.509. INSPECTION FEE REFUND FOR VOLUNTEER FIRE |
|
|
DEPARTMENT VEHICLES. (a) A person who pays a fee under Section |
|
|
548.501 or 548.503 for a motor vehicle used for direct volunteer |
|
|
fire department business, including a fire truck or support |
|
|
vehicle, is eligible to receive a refund of the amount of the fee |
|
|
paid to the department. |
|
|
(b) A person described by Subsection (a) must apply to the |
|
|
comptroller for a refund under this section. |
|
|
(c) The comptroller shall adopt rules to implement this |
|
|
section. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies only |
|
|
to an inspection fee paid on or after the effective date of this |
|
|
Act. An inspection fee paid before the effective date of this Act is |
|
|
governed by the law in effect on the date the inspection fee was |
|
|
paid, and the former law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
