A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the accessibility of initial training and continuing |
|
|
education for constables. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 1701.3545, Occupations Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(a-1) To ensure convenient access to the programs required by |
|
|
this section, the institution selected under Subsection (a) shall |
|
|
offer the programs to constables at geographically diverse |
|
|
locations throughout this state and on the Internet. |
|
|
SECTION 2. Not later than January 1, 2008, the public |
|
|
institution of higher education selected by the Commission on Law |
|
|
Enforcement Officer Standards and Education to establish and offer |
|
|
initial training and continuing education for constables under |
|
|
Section 1701.3545, Occupations Code, shall comply with the |
|
|
requirements of Section 1701.3545(a-1), Occupations Code, as added |
|
|
by this Act. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
