A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to police officers eligible to be certified to enforce |
|
commercial motor vehicle safety standards. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Section 644.101(b), Transportation Code, is |
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
(b) A police officer of any of the following municipalities |
|
is eligible to apply for certification under this section: |
|
(1) a municipality with a population of 100,000 or |
|
more; |
|
(2) a municipality with a population of 60,000 or more |
|
any part of which is located in: |
|
(A) a county with a population of 750,000 or |
|
more; and |
|
(B) two or more counties with a combined |
|
population of one million or more; |
|
(3) a municipality with a population of 25,000 or more |
|
any part of which is located in a county with a population of two |
|
million or more; |
|
(4) [(3)] a municipality with a population of less |
|
than 25,000: |
|
(A) any part of which is located in a county with |
|
a population of 2.4 million; and |
|
(B) that contains or is adjacent to an |
|
international port; or |
|
(5) [(4)] a municipality any part of which is located |
|
in a county bordering the United Mexican States. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
