A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the funding of certain programs and services through |
|
|
the universal service fund. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 56, Utilities Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 56.027 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 56.027. FUNDING OF CERTAIN PROGRAMS AND SERVICES. The |
|
|
commission shall provide funding in an amount equal to not less than |
|
|
15 percent of the funds collected under this subchapter to: |
|
|
(1) reimburse the department, the Texas Commission for |
|
|
the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the commission for costs incurred |
|
|
in implementing this chapter and Chapter 57; |
|
|
(2) reimburse a telecommunications provider for |
|
|
providing lifeline service access to customers; and |
|
|
(3) finance the implementation and administration of |
|
|
an integrated eligibility process created under Section 17.007. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
