A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to an educational campaign to promote awareness of
requirements for criminal justice agencies to report and
disseminate information about threats against peace officers and
detention officers.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 411.048, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (j) to read as follows:
       (j)  The department and the Commission on Law Enforcement
Officer Standards and Education shall:
             (1)  conduct an educational campaign designed to
promote awareness by criminal justice agencies of the requirements
of this section;
             (2)  use existing technology and educational materials
to distribute information related to the educational campaign to
criminal justice agencies; and
             (3)  post information related to the educational
campaign on the Internet website of the department and the Internet
website of the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and
Education.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
