A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
 |

relating to an educational campaign to promote awareness of  | 
| 
 | 
requirements for criminal justice agencies to report and  | 
| 
 | 
disseminate information about threats against peace officers and  | 
| 
 | 
detention officers. | 
| 
 | 
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | 
| 
 | 
       SECTION 1.  Section 411.048, Government Code, is amended by  | 
| 
 | 
adding Subsection (j) to read as follows: | 
| 
 | 
       (j)  The department and the Commission on Law Enforcement  | 
| 
 | 
Officer Standards and Education shall: | 
| 
 | 
             (1)  conduct an educational campaign designed to  | 
| 
 | 
promote awareness by criminal justice agencies of the requirements  | 
| 
 | 
of this section; | 
| 
 | 
             (2)  use existing technology and educational materials  | 
| 
 | 
to distribute information related to the educational campaign to  | 
| 
 | 
criminal justice agencies; and | 
| 
 | 
             (3)  post information related to the educational  | 
| 
 | 
campaign on the Internet website of the department and the Internet  | 
| 
 | 
website of the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and  | 
| 
 | 
Education. | 
| 
 | 
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives  | 
| 
 | 
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as  | 
| 
 | 
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this  | 
| 
 | 
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this  | 
| 
 | 
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
