A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|

|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the authority to approve schools of nursing. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 301.157, Occupations Code, is amended by |
|
|
adding Subsection (b-1) to read as follows: |
|
|
(b-1) The Board may not require accreditation of the |
|
|
governing institution of a school of nursing. The Board shall |
|
|
accept the requirements established by the Texas Higher Education |
|
|
Coordinating Board for accrediting the governing institution of a |
|
|
school of nursing. |
|
|
SECTION 2. The changes in law made by this Act do not affect |
|
|
the approval of a school of nursing granted by the Board of Nurse |
|
|
Examiners under Section 301.157, Occupations Code, as that section |
|
|
existed before amendment by this Act. That approval continues |
|
|
according to its terms unless withdrawn or otherwise modified by |
|
|
the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board under coordinating |
|
|
board rules and may be extended beyond the period for which the |
|
|
approval was granted only by the coordinating board. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
