A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to transportation of public school students placed in a
juvenile justice alternative education program.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 37.011, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (e-1) to read as follows:
       (e-1)  A school district may contract with a juvenile board
to provide transportation services for students placed in a
juvenile justice alternative education program, including students
who are expelled under Sections 37.007(b), (c), and (f).
       SECTION 2.  Section 42.155, Education Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (d-1) to read as follows:
       (d-1)  A district or county operating a regular
transportation system that provides transportation for students
placed in a juvenile justice alternative education program is
entitled to receive the allotment described by Subsection (c) for
each student placed in the program and transported by the district
or county, regardless of the basis on which each student was placed
in the program. The commissioner shall adopt rules necessary to
implement this subsection.
       SECTION 3.  This Act applies beginning with the 2007-2008
school year.
       SECTION 4.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
