A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to certain requirements for a program of study prescribed
by the Board of Nurse Examiners for registered nurses.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 301.157, Occupations Code, is amended by
adding Subsection (a-1) to read as follows:
       (a-1) In determining whether to approve a diploma program
under Subsection (a)(3), the board shall accept a nursing education
program that maintains programmatic accreditation from a nursing
accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of
Education and satisfies the board's other standards for a
prescribed course of study for an approved school of nursing or
educational program.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
