A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to discounts on highway tolls offered to certain disabled |
|
|
veterans. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Title 6, Chapter 366, Transportation Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 366.305 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 366.305. DISCOUNTS AUTHORIZED. (a) A Regional |
|
|
Tollway Authority may issue vehicle tags to a veteran with a |
|
|
service-connected disability, as defined by the Veteran's |
|
|
Administration. The discounts may cover the entire cost of tolls, |
|
|
or may cover a portion of those costs. |
|
|
(b) The Commissioner of the Department of Transportation |
|
|
may formulate by rule guidelines to allow disabled veterans |
|
|
entitled to a toll road discount in one locality to enjoy a |
|
|
comparable discounts in another locality which offers the |
|
|
discounts. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
