A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to a study of instruction in public schools regarding the
Holocaust and identification of best practices regarding that
instruction.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  (a) The Texas Education Agency shall conduct or
contract for a study of the degree to which public schools are
providing instruction to students regarding the Holocaust.
       (b)  The study must include the following components:
             (1)  identification of the grade levels at which
instruction regarding the Holocaust is being provided;
             (2)  quantification of the amount of instructional time
spent addressing the Holocaust at each affected grade level;
             (3)  a description of the types of materials being used
to provide instruction regarding the Holocaust; and
             (4)  identification of school district and campus best
practices for providing instruction regarding the Holocaust.
       (c)  Not later than December 1, 2008, the Texas Education
Agency shall:
             (1)  submit a report to the legislature regarding the
results of the study required by this section; and
             (2)  include any best practices identified under
Subsection (b)(4) of this section in the online clearinghouse
established under Section 7.009, Education Code.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
