A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the posting of statements, registrations, and reports
filed with the Texas Ethics Commission on the commission's Internet
website.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter C, Chapter 571, Government Code, is
amended by adding Section 571.0789 to read as follows:
       Sec. 571.0789.  POSTING STATEMENTS, REGISTRATIONS, AND
REPORTS ON WEBSITE.  (a)  This section applies to a statement,
registration, or report filed with the commission under:
             (1)  Chapter 302, 303, 305, 572, or 2004;
             (2)  Subchapter C, Chapter 159, Local Government Code,
by a county judicial officer, as defined by Section 159.051, Local
Government Code, who elects to file a financial statement with the
commission; or
             (3)  Title 15, Election Code.
       (b)  The commission shall post on its Internet website each
statement, registration, or report filed with the commission not
later than:
             (1)  the 3rd business day after the date on which the
statement, registration, or report is filed, if the statement,
registration, or report is filed electronically; or
             (2)  the 10th business day after the date on which the
statement, registration, or report is filed, if the statement,
registration, or report is not filed electronically.
       (c)  Not later than November 1, 2007, the commission shall
post on its website each personal financial statement filed with
the commission for the 2000 calendar year or a later calendar year
under:
             (1)  Chapter 572; or
             (2)  Subchapter C, Chapter 159, Local Government Code,
by a county judicial officer who elects to file a financial
statement with the commission.
       (d)  Subsection (c) and this subsection expire January 1,
2008.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
