A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to designating March 31 as Governor James Pinckney |
|
|
Henderson Remembrance Day. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter C, Chapter 662, Government Code, is |
|
|
amended by adding Section 662.055 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 662.055. GOVERNOR JAMES PINCKNEY HENDERSON |
|
|
REMEMBRANCE DAY. (a) March 31 is Governor James Pinckney |
|
|
Henderson Remembrance Day to honor the life and achievements of |
|
|
James Pinckney Henderson, who was the first governor of the State of |
|
|
Texas in 1846. |
|
|
(b) Governor James Pinckney Henderson Remembrance Day shall |
|
|
be regularly observed by appropriate programs and activities in the |
|
|
public schools and other places to properly commemorate the life |
|
|
and achievements of the first governor of this state and to inspire |
|
|
a greater appreciation of the history of this state. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
