A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 
AN ACT
 
  relating to the deadline for filing a personal financial statement
  by persons appointed to certain state offices.
         BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
         SECTION 1.  Section 572.026(b), Government Code, is amended
  to read as follows:
         (b)  An individual who is appointed to serve as a salaried
  appointed officer or an appointed officer of a major state agency or
  who is appointed to fill a vacancy in an elective office shall file
  a financial statement not later than the 30th [14th] day after the
  date of appointment or the date of qualification for the office, or
  if confirmation by the senate is required, before the first
  committee hearing on the confirmation, whichever date is earlier.
         SECTION 2.  Section 572.026(b), Government Code, as amended
  by this Act, applies only to the filing of a financial statement by
  a person appointed to state office on or after the effective date of
  this Act. The filing of a financial statement by a person appointed
  to state office before the effective date of this Act is governed by
  the law in effect on the date the person was appointed, and the
  former law is continued in effect for that purpose.
         SECTION 3.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
  a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
  provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this
  Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
  Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
