A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to verification of information disseminated by state
agencies.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Chapter 2052, Government Code, is amended by
adding Subchapter E to read as follows:
SUBCHAPTER E. VERIFICATION OF CERTAIN INFORMATION
       Sec. 2052.351.  VERIFICATION OF DISSEMINATED INFORMATION.  A
state agency may not disseminate information, including a judgment,
policy statement, or review, related to a profession, product, or
service regulated by the agency unless the agency verifies the
accuracy of the information by consulting experts or professional
or trade associations affiliated with the industry affected by the
information.
       Sec. 2052.352.  COMPLAINTS.  (a)  A person who believes a
state agency has disseminated inaccurate, incorrect, or misleading
information subject to Section 2052.351 may file a complaint with
the state agency.
       (b)  A state agency shall maintain a system to promptly and
efficiently act on complaints filed with the agency under
Subsection (a). The agency shall maintain information about:
             (1)  the parties to the complaint;
             (2)  the subject matter of the complaint;
             (3)  a summary of the results of the review or
investigation of the complaint; and
             (4)  the disposition of the complaint.
       Sec. 2052.353.  REPORT TO LEGISLATURE. Each state agency
shall file an annual report with the legislature concerning the
complaints received by the agency under Section 2052.352.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
