A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to providing free parking to certain witnesses during a
criminal trial.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Subchapter A, Chapter 56, Code of Criminal
Procedure, is amended by adding Article 56.16 to read as follows:
       Art. 56.16.  PARKING FOR VICTIM WITNESSES.  (a)  The clerk of
the court shall arrange for the provision of free parking near the
court for a victim of an offense who is called as a witness in the
trial of the offense.
       (b)  The clerk may comply with this article by reimbursing an
eligible person for any parking fees incurred by that person.
       (c)  In this article, notwithstanding Article 56.01(3),
"victim" means a person who has suffered personal injury or
property loss as the result of the criminal conduct of another,
other than criminal conduct punishable by fine only.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
