A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to providing free parking to certain witnesses during a |
|
|
criminal trial. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 56, Code of Criminal |
|
|
Procedure, is amended by adding Article 56.16 to read as follows: |
|
|
Art. 56.16. PARKING FOR VICTIM WITNESSES. (a) The clerk of |
|
|
the court shall arrange for the provision of free parking near the |
|
|
court for a victim of an offense who is called as a witness in the |
|
|
trial of the offense. |
|
|
(b) The clerk may comply with this article by reimbursing an |
|
|
eligible person for any parking fees incurred by that person. |
|
|
(c) In this article, notwithstanding Article 56.01(3), |
|
|
"victim" means a person who has suffered personal injury or |
|
|
property loss as the result of the criminal conduct of another, |
|
|
other than criminal conduct punishable by fine only. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
