A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the authority of a county or municipality to enter into |
|
|
certain debt collection contracts and to charge certain collection |
|
|
fees. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Article 103.0031(i), Code of Criminal Procedure, |
|
|
is amended to read as follows: |
|
|
(i) The commissioners court of a county or the governing |
|
|
body of a municipality may enter into a contract as described in |
|
|
this article to collect a debt incurred as a result of the |
|
|
commission of a criminal or civil offense committed before the |
|
|
effective date of this subsection. [The collection fee does not
|
|
|
apply to a debt collected pursuant to a contract entered into under
|
|
|
this subsection.] |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
