A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the inspection process for new home construction in a |
|
|
municipality. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter Z, Chapter 214, Local Government |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 214.906 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 214.906. FINAL INSPECTION OF NEW HOME CONSTRUCTION. |
|
|
(a) A municipality shall conduct the final inspection of a new |
|
|
residential building in the municipality for compliance with any |
|
|
applicable electrical, plumbing, or other construction-related |
|
|
code of the municipality before the installation of items, such as |
|
|
appliances and air conditioning units, that can be easily stolen |
|
|
from the building when it is not occupied. |
|
|
(b) The municipality may conduct a subsequent inspection |
|
|
after the building is occupied to ensure that the installation of |
|
|
items after the final inspection under Subsection (a) complies with |
|
|
the applicable municipal codes. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
