A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
relating to representation of constituents on local governing |
|
bodies. |
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 180, Local Government Code, is amended |
|
to read as follows: |
|
(a) In this section, "local government" means a county, |
|
municipality, or other political subdivision of this state. |
|
(b) An appointment to the governing body of a local |
|
government shall be made as required by the law applicable to that
|
|
local government and may be made with the intent to ensure that the |
|
governing body is representative of the constituency served by the |
|
governing body. |
|
(c) A local governing body that chooses to implement |
|
subsection (b) shall adopt procedures for the implementation. |
|
SECTION 2. This Act applies to an appointment made on or |
|
after the effective date of this Act. |
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately of it receives |
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
