A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a school bus idling near a public school or school |
|
|
event. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Amend Section 34.002 of the Education Code, by |
|
|
adding Subsection (d) to read as follows: |
|
|
(d) A school bus with a diesel engine shall keep its engine |
|
|
off when at a school or school event except: |
|
|
(1) when it is arriving or departing; or |
|
|
(2) for the minimum time necessary for pre-heating or |
|
|
pre-cooling before departure, except that the engine shall be |
|
|
turned off when students are loading or unloading. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
