A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to establishing an office of state statistician. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Chapter 88, Education Code, is amended by adding |
|
|
Subchapter K to read as follows: |
|
|
SUBCHAPTER K. OFFICE OF STATE STATISTICIAN |
|
|
Sec. 88.821. STATE STATISTICIAN. (a) The head of the |
|
|
Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University, in consultation |
|
|
with the dean of the College of Science at the university, shall |
|
|
establish the office of state statistician within the department |
|
|
and shall designate a member of the faculty or staff of the |
|
|
department as the state statistician. |
|
|
(b) In addition to the duties assigned by the Department of |
|
|
Statistics or the university to the office of state statistician, |
|
|
the office may conduct statistical analysis and research on request |
|
|
for public and private entities. The office may: |
|
|
(1) charge and collect fees for services provided to |
|
|
any person in amounts sufficient to recover the costs of providing |
|
|
those services; or |
|
|
(2) provide services under a contract that provides |
|
|
for a recovery of those costs. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
