A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the method of calling a local option election to
legalize or prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages in certain
municipalities.
       BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
       SECTION 1.  Section 501.021, Election Code, is amended to
read as follows:
       Sec. 501.021.  ELECTION TO BE HELD.  On proper petition by
the required number of voters of a county, justice precinct, or
municipality in the county, or on an order of the governing body of
a municipality with a population of 500,000 or more located in the
county, the commissioners court shall order a local option election
in the political subdivision to determine whether the sale of
alcoholic beverages of one or more of the various types and
alcoholic contents shall be prohibited or legalized in the
political subdivision.
       SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect September 1, 2007.
