A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the method of calling a local option election to |
|
|
legalize or prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages in certain |
|
|
municipalities. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 501.021, Election Code, is amended to |
|
|
read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 501.021. ELECTION TO BE HELD. On proper petition by |
|
|
the required number of voters of a county, justice precinct, or |
|
|
municipality in the county, or on an order of the governing body of |
|
|
a municipality with a population of 500,000 or more located in the |
|
|
county, the commissioners court shall order a local option election |
|
|
in the political subdivision to determine whether the sale of |
|
|
alcoholic beverages of one or more of the various types and |
|
|
alcoholic contents shall be prohibited or legalized in the |
|
|
political subdivision. |

|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
