A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to notification by the Texas Commission on Environmental |
|
|
Quality to certain elected officials of an application for a permit |
|
|
to drill an injection well used for in situ uranium mining. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Subchapter E, Chapter 27, Water Code, is amended |
|
|
by adding Section 27.074 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 27.074. NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR IN SITU URANIUM |
|
|
MINING. (a) At the time an application for a permit authorizing in |
|
|
situ uranium mining is submitted under this chapter, the applicant |
|
|
shall mail notice of the application to the governing body of each |
|
|
political subdivision that has jurisdiction over the location of |
|
|
the proposed injection well. |
|
|
(b) The notice must include information sufficient for the |
|
|
members of the governing body to identify the location of the |
|
|
activities proposed to be permitted. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
