A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to a fee for the collection of fees, fines or other court |
|
|
costs. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |

|
SECTION 1. The Code of Criminal Procedure is amended by |
|
|
adding Article 102.073 to read as follows: |
|
|
Article 102.073. COLLECTION FEE. An officer listed in |
|
|
Article 103.003 with the approval of the commissioners court or |
|
|
governing body of a municipality may assess a Collection fee for the |
|
|
collection of fines, fees, restitution, or other costs imposed by a |
|
|
court. The fee may not exceed $50 for each case. The Commissioners |
|
|
Court or governing body of a municipality shall use the fee |
|
|
collected to enhance overall collections of the county or |
|
|
municipality. |
|
|
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
