A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to warning signs for fish and shellfish consumption |
|
|
advisories or bans. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. The heading to Subchapter G, Chapter 436, Health |
|
|
and Safety Code, is amended to read as follows: |
|
|
SUBCHAPTER G. AQUATIC LIFE FROM PROHIBITED AREAS; CONSUMPTION |
|
|
WARNINGS |
|
|
SECTION 2. Subchapter G, Chapter 436, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, is amended by adding Section 436.092 to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 436.092. WARNING SIGNS NEAR BOAT RAMPS AND PIERS. The |
|
|
department shall post and maintain signs in the two most widely used |
|
|
languages in the area at all public boat ramps providing access to |
|
|
an area of fresh water or at fishing piers for an area of salt water |
|
|
that is affected by a fish or shellfish consumption advisory or fish |
|
|
or shellfish consumption ban issued by the department advising the |
|
|
public of the existence of the ban or advisory. |
|
|
SECTION 3. The Department of State Health Services shall |
|
|
begin posting signs required by Section 436.092, Health and Safety |
|
|
Code, as added by this Act, as soon as practicable, but not later |
|
|
than January 1, 2008. |
|
|
SECTION 4. This Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
