A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
|
|
|
AN ACT
|
|
|
relating to the minimum salaries of county officers and employees. |
|
|
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: |
|
|
SECTION 1. Section 152.012, Local Government Code, is |
|
|
amended to read as follows: |
|
|
Sec. 152.012. MINIMUM AMOUNT OF SALARY. The commissioners |
|
|
court may not set the salary of an officer, including a justice of |
|
|
the peace, or an employee at an amount less than the amount of the |
|
|
salary in effect on January 1, 2007 [1972]. [The court may not set
|
|
|
the salary of a justice of the peace at an amount less than the
|
|
|
amount of the salary in effect on May 25, 1973.] |
|
|
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act to Section |
|
|
152.012, Local Government Code, applies only to a salary paid in a |
|
|
county fiscal year that begins after the effective date of this Act. |
|
|
A salary paid in a county fiscal year that is in progress on the |
|
|
effective date of this Act is governed by the law in effect |
|
|
immediately before the effective date of this Act, and the former |
|
|
law is continued in effect for that purpose. |
|
|
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives |
|
|
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as |
|
|
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this |
|
|
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this |
|
|
Act takes effect September 1, 2007. |
