HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times, loving |
|
moments, and meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and |
|
friends of Cecil B. Long, who died on February 22, 2007, at the age |
|
of 88; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native Texan born on June 29, 1918, in Como to |
|
William Hamilton and Jennie Lou Houston Long, Cecil B. "Poss" Long |
|
was an alumnus of Sulphur Springs High School and received his |
|
bachelor's degree from East Texas State Teachers College in |
|
Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Long was a proud member of the United States Army |
|
Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in India and Burma |
|
during his service; returning stateside, he later became a teacher, |
|
coach, and administrator, serving for 31 years in the Blossom, |
|
Delmar, Reno, and North Lamar school districts; and |
|
WHEREAS, A loving husband, he was married to the former |
|
Latanae Taylor on October 18, 1946, in Greenville, and they shared |
|
many happy years together before her passing; he was also a |
|
cherished congregant of Lake Creek United Methodist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, A caring educator and a devoted family man, Poss |
|
Long excelled in each of these roles, and his full and fruitful life |
|
will serve as an inspiration to all who were privileged to know him; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil B. Long and extend sincere |
|
sympathy to the members of his family: to his sons, Mike Long and |
|
his wife, Sandy, and Bob Long; to his grandchildren, Chad Hagli, |
|
Jennifer Lindsey, Randy Long, Keelie Long, and Stephen Long; to his |
|
five great-grandchildren; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|
Cecil B. "Poss" Long. |
