CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Department of the American Volunteer |
|
Reserve Veterans Honor Guard has distinguished itself as a vital |
|
and valued asset to the citizens of Young County and North Central |
|
Texas, and it is indeed fitting that its members be lauded for their |
|
contributions to their community; and |
|
WHEREAS, The organization was founded in 2004 by William |
|
Crews McCulloch, brigadier general and national commander of the |
|
American Volunteer Reserve, to fulfill the role of honor guard at |
|
the funerals of fellow veterans, and Lieutenant Colonel Boyd E. |
|
Fallwell, chaplain and honor guard commander at Fort Sill National |
|
Cemetery, provided training and certification to the group's |
|
original members; and |
|
WHEREAS, In addition to its funeral duties, the Texas |
|
Department of the American Volunteer Reserve Veterans Honor Guard |
|
performs at special ceremonies on Memorial Day, the 4th of July, |
|
September 11, Veterans Day, and Pearl Harbor Day; moreover, its |
|
color guard is often called upon to post or raise the flag, as well |
|
as to teach patriotism, flag etiquette, and flag folding to |
|
schoolchildren and Boy Scouts; and |
|
WHEREAS, Demonstrating unwavering dedication and discipline, |
|
the honor guard has earned the admiration and appreciation of all |
|
those who hold in highest regard our veterans and our servicemen and |
|
servicewomen; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby pay tribute to the Texas Department of the American |
|
Volunteer Reserve Veterans Honor Guard and extend sincere |
|
appreciation to its members, both past and present; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the honor guard as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
