CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The city of Spur has been selected as an official |
|
Texas Main Street City by the Texas Historical Commission, becoming |
|
one of just five communities to receive this designation for 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Community Heritage Development |
|
Division of the THC and affiliated with the National Trust for |
|
Historic Preservation, the Texas Main Street Program assists |
|
communities in revitalizing their historic downtowns and |
|
neighborhood commercial districts; Spur was selected for the |
|
program after submitting an application that detailed its vintage |
|
architecture and commitment to preserving and promoting its core |
|
business district; and |
|
WHEREAS, As part of the program, officials from the |
|
historical commission will perform an extensive evaluation of |
|
Spur's business district and offer recommendations on how best to |
|
preserve the city's historic resources and utilize them to |
|
encourage economic development and tourism; in addition, |
|
coordinating staff and members of the city's Main Street board will |
|
receive special training from the commission, and the city will |
|
have the honor of hosting Texas First Lady Anita Perry when she |
|
tours the 2007 Texas Main Street communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, The preservation of historic buildings not only |
|
maintains a town's heritage but also provides a memorable |
|
attraction that can contribute to future development; Spur's |
|
participation in the Texas Main Street Program will further both of |
|
these worthy goals, and this achievement reflects the exceptional |
|
leadership and vision of the city's residents and civic leaders; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby congratulate the city of Spur on its designation as a 2007 |
|
official Texas Main Street City and commend all those involved in |
|
this project for their vital efforts to better their community; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the city of Spur as an expression of high regard from |
|
the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
