HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, A vital endeavor and a model of its kind, the
  Partners in Education program of the Lubbock Independent School
  District is fostering local alliances that contribute materially to
  student success, and seven area partners are being honored for
  their contributions by the Texas Association of Partners in
  Education (TAPE) during its 2007 annual conference; and
         WHEREAS, Established as Adopt-a-School more than two decades
  ago, the Lubbock program currently includes more than 400 community
  partners whose contributions to the Lubbock ISD during the past
  school year, in terms of volunteer hours and other assistance, were
  worth over $650,000; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, teachers, administrators, parents, and
  district coordinators nominate partners for statewide recognition,
  with nominees being evaluated with regard to the impact of their
  involvement on student progress; more than 100 partners across the
  state were nominated in eight categories for the 2007 awards; and
         WHEREAS, Lubbock-area partners who are receiving accolades
  at the TAPE awards banquet on January 30, 2007, along with the award
  they are receiving and the category in which they are being
  recognized, are as follows: Starbuck's Coffee Company Store No.
  9934, located at Glenna Goodacre Blvd. and University Avenue, a
  Crystal Award, Texas Small Business Partnership; PlainsCapital
  Bank and Parkhill Smith & Cooper, Inc., a Gold Award, Texas Medium
  Business Partnership; United Supermarkets, Ltd., a Crystal Award,
  Texas Large Business Partnership; Texas Tech University Math
  Department, a Crystal Award, Texas Collegiate Partnership; Lubbock
  Avalanche-Journal, a Crystal Award, Texas Media Partnership; Donna
  Zielinski of the Lubbock ISD, a Gold Award, Texas Adult Volunteer
  Partnership, Medium District; and Bob Tate of PlainsCapital Bank, a
  Crystal Award, Texas Liaison Partnership; and
         WHEREAS, The Lubbock ISD Partners in Education staff,
  volunteer advisory committee members, and volunteer officers are
  also deserving of commendation for their exemplary efforts in
  managing the Lubbock Partners in Education program; and
         WHEREAS, In consequence of the exceptional generosity and
  engagement of all these individuals, groups, and businesses,
  students in Lubbock are benefiting from a host of programs that will
  help them to build productive and fulfilling lives through the
  development of their own unique potential; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the Partners in Education program of the
  Lubbock Independent School District and to all the Lubbock-area
  participants who have been selected for recognition in 2007 by the
  Texas Association of Partners in Education.
