CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, For 50 years, the faculty and staff of Lubbock |
|
Christian University have provided students with a quality |
|
education rooted in the advancement of faith and service to family |
|
and community; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in 1957 by members of the Churches of |
|
Christ, the institution was established with a mission to teach |
|
students the spiritual dimension of life, provide a quality |
|
education, and impart a system of values for living and for serving |
|
others; and |
|
WHEREAS, Originally a junior college, the school opened with |
|
an enrollment of 110 students and F. W. Mattox serving as president; |
|
it advanced to university status in 1987, and today, under the |
|
leadership of its current president, Dr. L. Ken Jones, LCU offers |
|
its more than 2,000 students a choice of 34 undergraduate and 10 |
|
graduate programs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the years, five presidents and numerous |
|
faculty and staff have contributed to the success of the school, and |
|
LCU alumni have gone on to achieve personal and professional |
|
success while leading lives of meaningful service in their |
|
communities; and |
|
WHEREAS, The importance of obtaining a strong academic and |
|
spiritual foundation cannot be overstated, and all those associated |
|
with Lubbock Christian University may take great pride in the |
|
institution's contributions to educational excellence in the Lone |
|
Star State; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of Lubbock |
|
Christian University and extend best wishes to its students, |
|
faculty, staff, and alumni; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Lubbock Christian University as an expression of high |
|
regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
