H.C.R. No. 53
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and
  meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of
  the Honorable Bob Cummings of Gatesville, former justice of the
  Tenth Court of Appeals, who passed away on January 20, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born on August 7, 1936, to Ernest Lee and Mattie
  Manning Cummings, Bob Cummings served his country as a member of the
  U.S. Air Force Reserve; he was a graduate of The University of Texas
  and earned his juris doctorate from Baylor Law School in 1962; and
         WHEREAS, This notable Texan had a varied and successful
  career, including tenures as a sixth grade teacher at Gatesville
  Elementary School, an agent for Cummings Insurance Agency, and an
  assistant city attorney for the City of Waco; he practiced law
  privately for 10 years before serving as district attorney and then
  district judge of the 52nd Judicial District, and in 1991, he
  accepted responsibilities as a justice of the Tenth Court of
  Appeals, retiring from the position in 1998; and
         WHEREAS, Through the years, Justice Cummings gave generously
  of his time and talents to civic and professional organizations;
  benefiting from his membership were the Baylor Law Review
  Association, 52nd Judicial District Bar Association, Waco-McLennan
  County Bar Association, and State Bar of Texas, as well as the
  Gatesville Lions Club, Gatesville Exchange Club, American Legion
  Post No. 42, Gatesville Masonic Lodge No. 197, A.F. & A.M., and Waco
  Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies; and
         WHEREAS, A true and faithful friend to many, a devoted
  companion to his wife, and a caring father and adored grandfather,
  Justice Cummings will be deeply missed, but he will always be
  remembered with great admiration and affection; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby pay tribute to the life of former Tenth Court of Appeals
  Justice Bob Cummings and extend sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his wife of 43 years, Joy Cummings; to his children,
  Meredith Stephens and her husband, Jamey, Lindsey Cummings and his
  wife, Susan, and Eric Cummings and his wife, Tori; to his
  grandchildren, William Justice Stephens and Caroline, Claire,
  Colton, and Lindsey Ann Cummings; to his sister, Patsy Wheat and her
  husband, G. R.; to his sister-in-law, Ruth Cummings; and to his
  other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  Justice Bob Cummings.
