HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, With the passing of Charles A. Hinton on December 3, |
|
2006, at the age of 83, the Mount Pleasant community lost a |
|
respected businessman and civic leader; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on July 1, 1923, Andy Hinton was a native of |
|
Humble; he left Texas A&M University to join the armed forces during |
|
World War II and was commissioned as a lieutenant while serving in |
|
the Pacific Theater; a Bronze Star recipient, he returned to Texas |
|
A&M after the war and received bachelor's degrees in geological |
|
engineering and petroleum engineering; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hinton chaired the board of Hinton Productions |
|
Company and Hinton Estate Cattle Company; he worked throughout his |
|
career in the oil and gas drilling and production business, and |
|
later managed the family cattle business; and |
|
WHEREAS, A highly regarded citizen of Mount Pleasant, where |
|
he moved with his wife, Margaret, in the early 1950s, Mr. Hinton |
|
shared his time and resources with a host of civic endeavors, for |
|
which he won the 2001 Lifetime Achievement Award from the Mount |
|
Pleasant/Titus County Chamber of Commerce; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a faithful congregant of St. Marks Episcopal |
|
Church and member of the board of Guaranty Bond Bank, Titus Regional |
|
Medical Center, and the Mount Pleasant ISD; a Mason and Shriner as |
|
well, he participated in professional groups including the |
|
International Association of Drilling Contractors, which he served |
|
as a board member, the American Association of Petroleum |
|
Geologists, the Independent Petroleum Association of America, and |
|
the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Hinton and his wife were founding members of the |
|
President's Endowed Scholars at Texas A&M University and |
|
contributed to Eppright Distinguished Donors for the institution's |
|
12th Man Foundation; he served on the board of the Aggie Club and as |
|
vice president of the board of the university's Association of |
|
Former Students; and |
|
WHEREAS, Andy Hinton exemplified the virtues of gentlemanly |
|
conduct and inspirational leadership, and his legacy of integrity |
|
and generosity will continue to benefit others for years to come; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby pay tribute to the life of Charles A. Hinton and extend |
|
sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 55 |
|
years, Margaret Ross Hinton; to his children, Chuck Hinton and his |
|
wife, Linda, David Hinton and his wife, Susan, Ross Hinton, and |
|
Margaret Hampton and her husband, David; to his grandchildren, |
|
Weston, Caitlin, Andrea, Travis, Amanda, Elizabeth, and Sarah |
|
Hinton and Madison Hampton; and to his other relatives and friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|
Charles A. Hinton. |
