HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, The family, friends, and colleagues of Powell W. |
|
Peek, county judge of Red River County, were deeply saddened by his |
|
passing on January 20, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on January 15, 1942, in Red River County, to |
|
Powell Wootten Peek, Sr., and Mavis Lum Peek, Judge Peek worked for |
|
more than 40 years in the oil industry before he retired to his |
|
family farm in Red River County; and |
|
WHEREAS, Even in retirement he contributed to his community; |
|
in March 2001, he accepted an appointment as county judge to the Red |
|
River County Commissioners Court; first elected to the position in |
|
November 2002, Judge Peek was well respected by his colleagues in |
|
county government as a wise and compassionate man and an exemplary |
|
public official; he took an important part in the drive to restore |
|
the Red River County Courthouse, and as county judge he was a member |
|
of the Ark-Tex Council of Governments executive board, as well as |
|
numerous other regional boards; and |
|
WHEREAS, Powell Peek was a good family man and a widely |
|
admired public servant; he will be remembered for his wisdom and |
|
common sense as well as his compassion, and his dedication to his |
|
beloved Red River County stands as an inspiration to others and will |
|
not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby honor the life of Powell W. Peek and offer sincere |
|
condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Diane Peek; |
|
to his children, Luanne Peek Field, Steven Powell Peek, and Melissa |
|
Peek Mee; to his sisters, Carolyn Peek Hitt and Susan Peek |
|
Rosenberger; to his grandchildren, Belami Rhea Peek, Morgan Geneva |
|
Mee, and Brandon Derrick Mee; and to his other relatives and |
|
friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of |
|
the Honorable Powell W. Peek. |
