  H.C.R. No. 80
 
 
 
HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, The family, friends, and colleagues of Powell W.
  Peek, county judge of Red River County, were deeply saddened by his
  passing on January 20, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Born on January 15, 1942, in Red River County, to
  Powell Wootten Peek, Sr., and Mavis Lum Peek, Judge Peek worked for
  more than 40 years in the oil industry before he retired to his
  family farm in Red River County; and
         WHEREAS, Even in retirement he contributed to his community;
  in March 2001, he accepted an appointment as county judge to the Red
  River County Commissioners Court; first elected to the position in
  November 2002, Judge Peek was well respected by his colleagues in
  county government as a wise and compassionate man and an exemplary
  public official; he took an important part in the drive to restore
  the Red River County Courthouse, and as county judge he was a member
  of the Ark-Tex Council of Governments executive board, as well as
  numerous other regional boards; and
         WHEREAS, Powell Peek was a good family man and a widely
  admired public servant; he will be remembered for his wisdom and
  common sense as well as his compassion, and his dedication to his
  beloved Red River County stands as an inspiration to others and will
  not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby honor the life of Powell W. Peek and offer sincere
  condolences to the members of his family: to his wife, Diane Peek;
  to his children, Luanne Peek Field, Steven Powell Peek, and Melissa
  Peek Mee; to his sisters, Carolyn Peek Hitt and Susan Peek
  Rosenberger; to his grandchildren, Belami Rhea Peek, Morgan Geneva
  Mee, and Brandon Derrick Mee; and to his other relatives and
  friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
  the Honorable Powell W. Peek.
