  H.C.R. No. 88

HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, In June 1972, the 62nd Texas Legislature designated
the Commemorative Air Force, now based in Midland, as the official
Air Force of the State of Texas; and
WHEREAS, From its humble beginnings in 1957, when a small
group of former military pilots joined together to purchase a World
War II-era fighter aircraft, the Commemorative Air Force has grown
to be an international organization, with members in all 50 states
and in 28 foreign countries; the CAF operates the eighth largest air
force in the world and has achieved worldwide renown as an
  ambassador of goodwill; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to acquiring and restoring to flying
condition the historic military aircraft of World War II, including
the world's only flying examples of the B-29 and SB2C, the CAF
preserves the vintage combat aircraft in its fleet as a vivid
reminder of the tremendous cost required to maintain peace and
ensure liberty and justice for all; and
WHEREAS, On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the
Commemorative Air Force, as we continue to seek peace and harmony
among nations, those magnificently restored military machines
serve as a particularly fitting reminder of the price of freedom and
as a monument to the military personnel who have advanced the cause
of liberty throughout our country's history; and
WHEREAS, In meeting the complex challenges of the world
today, it is vital that our citizenry remember the lessons of the
past, and the Commemorative Air Force is making a crucial
contribution to that end through its work in preserving the
military aviation history of World War II; and
WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are proud of the Commemorative Air
Force, which has so ably represented this great state and which has
educated and inspired legions of citizens through its outstanding
air shows, seminars, and museum; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
hereby honor the Commemorative Air Force on the 50th anniversary of
its founding and recognize this patriotic organization as a
defender of Texas honor and pride; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Commemorative Air Force as an expression of high
regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
