CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Deetrice Wallace, an educator in the Houston
  Independent School District, has been named the 2007 Harris County
  Teacher of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Education Foundation of Harris
  County, which supports programs in all 26 independent school
  districts within Harris County, the Teacher of the Year award is
  part of the foundation's mission to create extraordinary
  opportunities for all children by promoting excellence and fresh
  thinking in public education; it chose Dee Wallace as the recipient
  of its highest annual honor because of her innovation in the
  classroom and her dedication to her students and her colleagues;
  and
         WHEREAS, An instructor for 11 years, nine of which have been
  spent in the Houston ISD, Ms. Wallace teaches science and robotics
  to eighth graders at Sharpstown Middle School and also works at
  Sharpstown High School; she is known for going above and beyond the
  call of duty to ensure that her students learn and succeed; regarded
  by her peers as a high-energy educator she constantly finds new ways
  to make lessons relevant to the experiences of her students; and
         WHEREAS, This dedicated educator also takes part in a variety
  of additional initiatives to enhance learning; she mentors other
  teachers and often takes her students on weekend field trips;
  moreover, she serves as coach of the Sharpstown robotics team, and
  in 2006, she helped the team win first place in bracket competition
  and to finish 10th among all the teams in the state; and
         WHEREAS, Dee Wallace's skill and effectiveness as a teacher
  have previously been recognized with several awards; she was named
  the 2005-2006 Sharpstown Middle School Teacher of the Year, and the
  Education Foundation of Harris County selected her as Teacher of
  the Month in April 2006; and
         WHEREAS, With her unrelenting efforts to inspire and educate,
  Dee Wallace has had an enduring and positive influence on her
  students, and her exemplary success as an educator is worthy of the
  highest acclaim; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby honor Deetrice Wallace for being named the 2007 Harris
  County Teacher of the Year and extend to her best wishes for
  continued success in educating the young people of Houston; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Wallace as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
