CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
|
|
WHEREAS, Deetrice Wallace, an educator in the Houston |
|
Independent School District, has been named the 2007 Harris County |
|
Teacher of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Education Foundation of Harris |
|
County, which supports programs in all 26 independent school |
|
districts within Harris County, the Teacher of the Year award is |
|
part of the foundation's mission to create extraordinary |
|
opportunities for all children by promoting excellence and fresh |
|
thinking in public education; it chose Dee Wallace as the recipient |
|
of its highest annual honor because of her innovation in the |
|
classroom and her dedication to her students and her colleagues; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, An instructor for 11 years, nine of which have been |
|
spent in the Houston ISD, Ms. Wallace teaches science and robotics |
|
to eighth graders at Sharpstown Middle School and also works at |
|
Sharpstown High School; she is known for going above and beyond the |
|
call of duty to ensure that her students learn and succeed; regarded |
|
by her peers as a high-energy educator she constantly finds new ways |
|
to make lessons relevant to the experiences of her students; and |
|
WHEREAS, This dedicated educator also takes part in a variety |
|
of additional initiatives to enhance learning; she mentors other |
|
teachers and often takes her students on weekend field trips; |
|
moreover, she serves as coach of the Sharpstown robotics team, and |
|
in 2006, she helped the team win first place in bracket competition |
|
and to finish 10th among all the teams in the state; and |
|
WHEREAS, Dee Wallace's skill and effectiveness as a teacher |
|
have previously been recognized with several awards; she was named |
|
the 2005-2006 Sharpstown Middle School Teacher of the Year, and the |
|
Education Foundation of Harris County selected her as Teacher of |
|
the Month in April 2006; and |
|
WHEREAS, With her unrelenting efforts to inspire and educate, |
|
Dee Wallace has had an enduring and positive influence on her |
|
students, and her exemplary success as an educator is worthy of the |
|
highest acclaim; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas |
|
hereby honor Deetrice Wallace for being named the 2007 Harris |
|
County Teacher of the Year and extend to her best wishes for |
|
continued success in educating the young people of Houston; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Ms. Wallace as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives and Senate. |
