HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
         WHEREAS, Over the course of more than four decades, Charles
  "Tex" Harrison has spread joy and goodwill as a member of the Harlem
  Globetrotters, first as a player and now as a coach; and
         WHEREAS, During his 18-year career as a player, Mr. Harrison
  was recognized as one of the fastest men to ever lace up a pair of
  high-top sneakers and dribble a basketball; his coaching
  accomplishments include leading the Globetrotters to a 10-1 record
  over NBA Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabar's Legendary All-Stars
  during the Ultimate Challenge Tour in 1995; and
         WHEREAS, Possessed of exceptional ball-handling skill and
  rebounding ability, Mr. Harrison was a star at Phillis Wheatley
  High School in Houston before attending North Carolina Central
  University, where he earned a degree in physical education and
  became the first basketball player from a historically African
  American college to earn All-American honors; and
         WHEREAS, The tall Texan was invited to join the Globetrotters
  after facing the team as a member of the College All-American team
  during the World Series of Basketball in 1954; since then, he has
  entertained millions of fans in more than 100 countries, rubbing
  elbows with celebrities, political and religious leaders, and even
  royalty along the way; and
         WHEREAS, Tex Harrison has represented the Lone Star State
  with honor and integrity throughout his long and exciting career as
  a member of the Harlem Globetrotters, and his efforts have earned
  him the respect and admiration of countless fans; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the 80th Legislature of the State of Texas
  hereby recognize Charles "Tex" Harrison for his outstanding career
  as a player and coach with the Harlem Globetrotters and extend to
  him best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Harrison as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
